Around 50 persons gathered at Peaceful Rest Missionary Baptist Church in Shreveport, LA.  Thanks to Rev. Timothy Jones and congregation and staff for hosting us!  And thanks to all of our participants at the 46th Annual Assembly!

Welcome to some new faces!

Deacon Joey Lirette (new Board Designate for the Roman Catholic Diocese of Houma-Thibodaux) & Rev. Thomas Nsubuga (a new delegate for the Episcopal Diocese of West Louisiana)

We were very excited to have more than 10 brand new delegates at this Assembly!  We encourage and welcome new ecumenists!

Rev. Willie Giles (a new delegate for the Louisiana Home & Foreign Mission Baptist State Convention) and Bishop Jacob Owensby (Immediate Past President of LIC)

Mr. Trevor-David Bryan (a new delegate from the Racial Reconciliation Commission of the Episcopal Diocese of LA) and Pastor Dale Farley (long-time Secretary of the LIC)

We didn't capture every one of the new faces in the photos on this page, but were so pleased to have them all with us!

Special thanks to our volunteers who helped during this Asembly:

Emma Shepherd, who did most of the photography, and Lois Frazer who helped with registration and other details.

March 7th -

8th, 2016

Shreveport, LA

“The Church, Social Justice and Racial Reconciliation”

Dr. Melva Turner-Williams

Melva Turner-

Williams, Ph.D.

Dr. Melva Turner-Williams, (Executive Associate to the Chancellor, Southern University of Shreveport, LA), was the speaker on Monday, March 7, 2016.  Dr. Williams provided an extensive interactive power point presentation that provided in-depth coverage of the social issues.  She was funny & witty, and knows her Bible!  We were not able to get an electronic presentation for our website; it was really one of those situations where you just needed to be there!

Out of this Assembly, was born the idea of

beginning a new LIC task force dedicated to:

 Racial Reconciliation

This will be discussed further at upcoming meetings.

Dr. David Otto, (Professor of Religious Studies, and the Arthur & Emily Webb Chair of International Studies, Centenary College of LA), was the speaker on Tuesday, March 8, 2016.  Dr. Otto laid out practical models for racial reconciliation, inspiring lively table discussions in the latter part of the session, and thus was born the idea of the new task force mentioned above.  Please click here for summary information from Dr. Otto's presentation.

Board of Directors Elections:

The Rev. Dr. C. S. Gordon, Jr., the new LIC President

The Rev. Dr. C. S. Gordon, Jr. of the Louisiana Missionary Baptist State Convention was officially installed as President.  Bishop Michael Duca, Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Shreveport, will serve as the President-Elect.  The Rev. Wayne Carter was elected as Region 1 Coordinator; Mrs. Ann Romero and the Rev Lindy Broderick, Board members at large.  We offer thanks to those completing their service on the Board: the Rev. Gregory Gyce, Region I Coordinator; and, Mrs. Mary Jane Jones, Rev. Hulen Warren, and Rev. Walter Baer, Board Members at large.

Dr. Gordon was also the preacher at the evening Ecumenical Worship Service.  We were happy to be able to join with the congregation of Peaceful Rest Missionary Baptist Church as well as other worshippers visiting from other areas, for a time of prayer and praise.
