“In His unfailing providence, God our Father calls us to demonstrate the oneness we already share through faith in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior. The Holy Spirit summons us to that perfect oneness which Jesus wills for His people. In joyful response we do hereby constitute ourselves into the Louisiana Interchurch Conference as a contemporary instrument of our obedience.”

A Vision and a Covenant

In February of 1970 (55 years ago!), faith leaders from across Louisiana came together to sign the Covenant of Formation, establishing the Louisiana Interchurch Conference. They believed then—as we do now—that the unity Christ calls us to is not just an ideal but a lived reality, one we must work toward with faith, hope, and love.

In an era of deep division and polarization, ecumenism remains a radical and necessary witness. It reminds us that what unites us in Christ is greater than what separates us. It calls us to listen, to serve, and to stand together in love for the sake of the world.

As we mark this anniversary, I invite you to join us for the 2025 LIC Annual Assembly on March 11. This gathering will bring together leaders and communities of faith to renew our shared commitment to unity and witness. Together, we will reflect on the call of Christ, celebrate our common mission, and build bridges of understanding and action.

Let’s continue the work begun in faith so many years ago.

During the 2025 Annual Assembly of the Louisiana Interchurch Conference we will:

  • reflect on the 1700th anniversary of the Council of Nicaea, which called the Church to unity in Christ, and

  • hear from advocates for creation care, the dignity and well-being of immigrants and refugees, and juveniles in the criminal/legal system.

  • Voting delegates will also vote on various resolutions related to these topics and the slate for 2025-2026 officers of the LIC Board of Directors. Judicatory leaders may designate voting delegates using this form: LIC Voting Delegates Form

I invite you to join us as we gather to worship, reflect, and act together as one body on March 11, 2025 (9am-4pm) for the 55th Annual Assembly of the Louisiana Interchurch Conference.

We are grateful to First Christian Church for hosting this gathering:

8484 Old Hammond Highway / Baton Rouge, Louisiana 70809.

Feel free to share this invitation to others. Come and be part of this sacred time of unity.
